New ideas

Hey!

I've been writing this one book for two years now, and guess what? I'm still on the first chapter! This is what happened. I wrote 20 really short chapters that basically were telling three separate stories that had no connection whatsoever. I really want to write a trilogy, and the first book is supposed to be from the main character's perspective and only from her perspective. So, I took a 6 month break from the book before coming back and writing a new first chapter. I had changed the story a lot, changed how I wanted my heroine to get from point A to point B to point C, and changed the secondary characters. I liked it, but it wasn't right.

So I rewrote it again. I need this book to be as close to perfect as I can get it. This is like my life book. I'm basically writing my own story if I lived in a fantasy world. I couldn't get it to come out right, because I wasn't willing to change it into something more flexible and ultimately go for a more powerful goal at the end.

Yesterday, no, two days ago, I took out some things in my rererewritten first chapter and added some other stuff, changed some of the flow, and now, I feel like I can move on to the next part, like I have somewhere to go. Kalissa (my character) has been growing on me and in me for a while, and we're starting to know each other pretty well. However, other characters and aspects of them still surprise me, so I have to see where they'll take me as I continue to write. I'm also going to try and write some sort of outline, well, I hate that word, so let's use guideline instead. I'm going to write a sort of - ahah! - sketch, that will help me remember where I'm going, how and when I want to get there and why so and so is doing such and such as whatever time he's doing it.

I can't write: in chapter one, this happens. I think I'm going to try drawing some sort of picture, with lines all over describing where characters go, and such like that. It might work. Oftentimes doodling brings out more of a masterpiece that forced work does. You can't force inspiration, you have to let it drip into you from whatever your well is. The river of inspiration feed's your mind's well of knowledge and imagination, and that is what feeds your stories and your fingers. I like to get poetic at times like this. Writing on writing is a subject I love. As you can see, since I started this blog, and as of May?, I've been active almost every day!

This has been really good for me. I'm going to have to work hard on algebra and geometry these coming weeks, so I won't be posting every day, most likely, but I won't lose what I've started here. I've started a discipline and writers need that. I've got aspirations and I'm going to live up to them! Here I come!

  1. Hi. From one aspiring author to another, I want to share a tip given to me this week by a friend who wants to see me succeed at writing a book. I blogged about it at http://fay-moore.blogspot.com/2011/07/artists-way.html

Please stop by Dream Station: I Want to Be a Writer and say hi. You may even find some inspiration to complete your trilogy!
